On The Road Again With RV Living

Signs You Need to Buy a Bigger RV

3 min read

The RV lifestyle is about more than just owning an RV. It’s a way of living. As with many things in life, our needs change over time. Perhaps you’ve had some recent changes in your life and a larger RV is now necessary. To help you decide if it’s time to buy a bigger RV, RVT compiled a list of signs it’s time to upsize your rig.

Expanding Family

If your family is growing or you plan to travel with more people, a larger RV can provide the necessary space and accommodations to meet your needs. It allows everyone to have their own sleeping areas and provides more room for comfort during travel. Choosing the type of vehicle may also depend on your family’s lifestyle – if you simply enjoy the feeling of camping, selecting a larger, affordable pop-up trailer may be more beneficial than purchasing an expensive Class A motorhome. Whether you choose a big trailer or a large motorhome, it is helpful to do your research and know how to “right size” your new RV.

Increased Comfort

A bigger RV generally means more living space, which translates to increased comfort. With a larger RV, you can have amenities like a larger kitchen, more seating options, a separate bedroom, and additional storage space. This can make your travels more enjoyable and convenient, especially for longer trips. Large fifth-wheels, for instance, offer plenty of sleeping, living, and storage space for added comfortability.

Extended Trips

If you are planning to go on longer trips or spend more time on the road, a bigger RV can be beneficial. It offers extra storage for supplies, equipment, and personal belongings, allowing you to carry everything you need for extended periods without feeling cramped. Likewise, having certain amenities, including a kitchenette or a bathroom, might be necessary additions for these extended trips. Class A or Class C motorhomes are a great option for those who desire longer excursions in the great outdoors.

Enhanced Features

Larger RVs often come with additional amenities that may not be available in smaller models. These can include features like multiple bathrooms, slide-out rooms for extra space, upgraded appliances, entertainment systems, and more luxurious furnishings. If you desire a higher level of comfort and convenience, a bigger RV can offer these features. Class A motorhomes tend to be the most well-appointed RVs, but they also come with the highest price tag.

Full-Time Living

For individuals or families considering full-time RV living, a bigger RV is usually a more practical choice. With more living space, you can create a home-like environment with dedicated living areas, dining and kitchen space, a separate bedroom, and ample storage for your belongings. This ensures that you have enough space to live comfortably for an extended period on the road. If you are planning this major lifestyle change, it is worth noting that Class A and C RVs will be the most spacious for you and your family. Camper vans may also be a great option for solo travelers or couples.

Hobbies and Activities

A recreational lifestyle change may be another reason to consider upgrading to a larger RV. If you have specific hobbies or activities that require extra space or equipment, such as carrying bikes, kayaks, or other recreational gear, a larger RV can accommodate these needs. Toy Haulers, for example, allow you to bring along your favorite toys and enjoy your hobbies while on the road.

Various lifestyle changes may persuade you to consider upgrading to a larger rig. When you do decide it’s time to upgrade to a bigger RV, it’s important to do your research and understand the best time of the year to purchase a new RV.
