The couple I filled up at last year accepted Visa. Don’t know about all of them, only the ones I stopped at.

Most every gas station in Canada will take credit cards but if in doubt ask before filling. As with most US stations they might limit the amount you can get per pump.

We just returned from a one-week trip to the Maritime Provinces and used our credit cards every time to pump gas. No issues at all.

It is also a good idea to have a credit card that does not charge foreign transaction fees.  We have a Capitol One Mastercard and a Costco Visa that do not, but our Chase cards do.  Many sneak the fees in at statement time, so they catch you by surprise.

The real surprise for us in Canada was that COSTCO did not accept VISA, only MASTERCARD. That was interesting...we finally wrote them a check from our personal account.

Not only do they accept Mastercard and Visa but they are the best cards to use because you receive the true exchange rate without any fees. The exchange rate is about .73 cents US for a Canadian dollar.

The Dallas COSTCO doesn't accept any card except the one that they sponsor.

The fees or lack of fees depends on who issued the card.

The last time I was there long enough to fill a couple of tanks (2015), I found some pumps that would not take my Capitol One mastercard, but if I took it inside the station it went through.

This is supposed to be fixed if you use a Costco branded card, so you can use a USA Costco Visa in Canada and a Canadian Costco Mastercard in the USA.  I will know for sure in a couple weeks when we go into British Columbia and will probably visit a Costco.

Hasn't been so far. Our Canadian Costco Mastercard was refused again last winter. Unless this is a new development.
