I am curious as to what people use to store spices.   Do you keep them in a rack or carousel, in a cabinet or drawer? There are so many options.

It varied from one rig to another. One had a built in spice rack so that was a no brainer. In one I had a pull-out pantry so they went on a shelf in it. In one I put all my spices into a clear-sided shoe box so I could more easily lift the whole thing out of a drawer when cooking. Like you said, "so many options.".

I have a drawer full of spices and seasonings. And, those that don't fit in the drawer go in the kitchen cabinet, along with the dishes. Sure, I could get by with just a few basic seasonings. But, we like to experiment with our cooking and eating, so we use a lot of different seasonings. I prefer to keep them in a drawer or cabinet so that they are not in the light, and so that they are not near the heat and moisture from the stove top or other cooking appliances.

For spices, we have the IKEA drawer organizer and canisters in a cabinet, they're a good size. Keeping them in a cool, dark place preserves the flavor & intensity longer. I buy bulk and keep the extra that won't fit in the shakey bottle in a zip loc.

Keep your spices tightly covered and store them in a cool, dry place. Whole spices stay fresh for up to 2 years while ground spices have a 6-month shelf life. Store red spices, such as paprika and red pepper, in the refrigerator. They will hold their color and keep their flavor longer.
