Tips for Taking Your RV to a Music Festival

Camping during the summer has its perks, and although many RVers enjoy camping in serene campsites, there are various festivals worth considering while you are out exploring. Music festivals, in particular, are fun and exciting outlets to let loose and be immersed in a crowd while listening to your favorite artists. Taking your RV to these festivals can be a fun and convenient way to enjoy and experience the event. Before you purchase your ticket to attend a music festival, RVT has provided eleven tips to help make your RV experience more entertaining.

1. Plan and Book in Advance

Music festivals often attract large crowds, and RV camping spots can fill up quickly. Research the festival’s camping options, including RV hookups, amenities, and resources. Make reservations well in advance to secure a spot, particularly for very popular music events.

2. Check Festival Guidelines and Rules

Familiarize yourself with the festival’s rules and regulations regarding RV camping. Some festivals may have restrictions depending on the dimensions and amenities your Class A motorhome, fifth wheel, travel trailer, or other RV possesses. This may include size restrictions, generator usage policies, quiet hours, and other important guidelines that may dictate whether you want to attend the event.

3. Pack Essentials and Supplies

Make a checklist of necessary items to bring with you, including bedding, kitchen supplies, toiletries, outdoor chairs, and camping gear. Don’t forget to pack enough food, drinks, and medication for the duration of the festival.

4. Prepare for Limited Services

Music festivals can have limited access to amenities, such as water and hookups. Plan accordingly by bringing extra water containers, fuel for generators, and batteries for your RV’s electrical needs. Camping at music festivals will oftentimes feel like boondocking, so it is best to pack your RV as though you are camping off the grid.

Music festivals can be loud and raucous, especially when staying at nearby campsites. Pack earplugs or noise-canceling headphones to ensure a good night’s sleep and protect your hearing.

7. Prepare For Weather Conditions

Check the weather forecast and pack appropriate clothing and gear. It is also helpful to plan for inclement weather, even if the forecast calls for sun – weather patterns change, and it is best to be equipped for any type of weather at the music event. Raincoats, umbrellas, sunscreen, hats, and insect repellent are among some of the essentials to pack.

8. Stay Organized and Secure Your Belongings

Where there’s a lot of people, theft can sometimes be a problem. Keep your RV organized and secure. Remove anything that appears valuable away from your windows. If possible, keep curtains or other window coverings closed to prevent anyone from looking into your RV. Be sure to lock your RV when you are away, and consider using additional locks or investing in extra security devices for added peace of mind.

9. Stay Hydrated and Take Breaks

Music festivals can be physically and mentally demanding, so remember to drink plenty of water and take breaks to rest and recharge. Pace yourself to avoid exhaustion and to be able to enjoy the entire event.

10. Respect Your Neighbors

Music festivals bring fun, excitement, and happiness to its observers. However, it is important to be mindful of the people camping around you. Keep noise levels down during quiet hours, be respectful of others’ personal space, and clean up after yourself. Building a friendly and considerate camping community can enhance your overall festival experience.

11. Have A Backup Plan

In case of any unforeseen circumstances, such as mechanical issues with your RV, changes in festival plans, or cancellations due to extreme inclement weather, have a backup plan or alternative accommodations ready. Research nearby campgrounds or hotels for additional lodging.

Music festivals provide a unique flair to your camping experience – rather than simply enjoying the great outdoors in a serene environment, music festivals are lively and thrilling.
